We have had a very busy week! We have had lots of different activities, outings, and tasks to do this week. We have been enjoying the resurgence of the warm summer weather including visits to our archaeological dig and tours round the village.

We started our week with our Monday Memories group, after the success of our Christmas Dinner the club decided to have a summer meal too! We had a lovely meal in the Perth Arms in Dunkeld, it was a fabulous way to socialise as a group and enjoy each other’s company.

Ruth paid a visit to the Glasgow Women’s Library on Wednesday and Thursday this week, this was part of her Museum Galleries Scotland management apprenticeship. It was a fantastic shadowing opportunity for Ruth and she had a fantastic time learning about how they run and the collections that they hold.  Find out more about them and their work by clicking this link.

Our guides Robyn and Tom were busy leading tours around the village this week for our prearranged tour groups. These tours are a fabulous opportunity to educate visitors to the area about the history of where they are.

On Thursday some of our staff and volunteers did a mini field trip to our excavation site in Dunkeld to see what our history group had been up to across the period of the excavation. Ian, Imogen and Kate had a fantastic time learning about what the group had uncovered and saw some of the features and finds from the excavation. We look forward to seeing more excavation work in future.

Above is a side by side view of a trench being excavated at the site revealing a wall of the building being excavated, exciting how much can change in just one week! The doorway to the building has also been revealed which gives some excellent context for the site and how the building was laid out.

The large flat stone visible above is the doorway to the building.

We had our first Gathertown session for our online public consultation session, we are looking forward to the next sessions and meeting new people and hearing their thoughts and ideas on our redevelopment. Our next sessions are:

  • 13th of July 2-3pm : “Technology in Museums”
  • 17th of July 10-11am: “How can we stand out in the crowd?”
  • 23rd of July 4-5pm : “How can museums help Climate Change”
  • 31st of July : Join us for a chance to find out what we’ve learned, and a chance to add more comments.
