Congrats to Robyn, our new tour guide, who completed her first tour on Wednesday. Robyn is just about to graduate from her history degree, and we are very excited to work with her. We have a few more tour guides joining us for the summer season, and we are very much looking forward to working with them and sharing the history of Dunkeld with our visitors.
Our clubs this week have been Midweek Memories and our archaeology and history club. Midweek memories were telling us about old shops and their keepers from days gone by. They were also reminiscing about the old traditions from May Bank holidays including how some people would walk up Birnam Hill on May Day to watch the sunrise (which frequently wasn’t visible as the sky would be too cloudy or misty)!
Our archaeology and history club session this week is a glass identification workshop with Jamie Kunka. Jamie has a vast amount of knowledge on historical glass after researching for his popular Instagram and Youtube channels “Bottles from the Deep” run alongside his partner Erin (and their dog Hemp) . Click here to follow their instagram and youtube accounts. Tickets are available via eventbrite (limited numbers may be available at the door): non-members £20, members go free.
There are many more events to come this summer, a 10% early bird discount is still available for our summer heritage workshops. Tickets for both events are available via eventbrite, book now to avoid missing out.
Visiting researchers this week have been on the hunt for information regarding a wide range of information. Some highlights this week include the King’s seat excavation, Amulree, and the history and story of the Pictish stones held in Dunkeld Cathedral. If you can’t make it to Dunkeld but have a burning question about any of our collection materials, please get in touch.
