A spectacularly unusual visitor popped in to see us this week, Karina the Barn owl travels with her owners and visits a variety of locations across the UK. If you are interested in Karina’s travels, you can follow her facebook page here.

Continuing the unusual theme, we need your help naming our new museum resident…. This eye catching chap is going to become a Jacobite! What shall we name him? Submit your suggestions in the box below.

Monday Memories got the week off to an excellent start with their dive into our photographic collection. We had a look through photographs which they hadn’t seen before! This sparked some excellent conversations and they are excited to revisit them again next week.

Flip through the gallery to take a look at some of the photographs we were looking at.

We have gained 7 new volunteers this month! They are working on a variety of projects from research to digitisation and transcription. There’s something for everyone here in the archive. Thank you all for getting involved, without your amazing hardwork and contributions we would not be able to function as an organisation.  If you have some spare time and would like to get involved, get in touch with us.

The Young Archaeologists’ were busy this week helping up plan our redevelopment.  The kids were voting on yes and no questions to share their ideas and designing their own dream museums! What would you have in your ideal museum?…

Our Adult’s Archaeology and History Club also met on Thursday! They were taking part in a fabulous ceramic identification workshop with Derek Hall who is a well known archaeologist and ceramics expert. He is currently Editor of the TAFAC journal and was formerly editor of Medieval Ceramics (annual journal of the Medieval Pottery Research Group). This workshop was an excellent teaching resource as pottery is found frequently during our excavations and dating it is an important part of the excavation process.

We have also switched out our exhibitions this week! Jamie Kunka’s “Bottles from the Deep Exhibition ” has now ended and we have returned to our Dunkeld and Birnam based exhibition. Come in for a visit as we have new sections within this exhibiton including the Picitsh history of the area and the Battle of Dunkeld in 1689.

We have several upcoming events! Best selling author Elizabeth Kostova is collaborating with us to present 4 creative writing workshops across March and April. More information is available via our what’s on page, tickets are available via eventbrite.
