This week began with Storm Floris battering the UK and an amber weather warning! We decided to close the archive on Monday due to this to keep our staff, volunteers and visitors safe. This meant that we missed another week of midweek memories! This means we are even more excited to see them again next week.

You can see an image of one of the trees in Stanley Hill park which sadly lost a branch during the storm. Our events advertising posters also required a bit of TLC when we returned on Tuesday, they had an excellent attempt at becoming sails during the storm!

We had a lovely visit from Gavin and Jake Duncan who previously lived in the area. They popped in whilst on a visit from Canada to donate Gavin’s grandfather, Colour Sergeant Robert Stewart’s, WW1 spurs and hip flask. Jake had also previously voiced the monkey puzzle tree as part of our Stanley Hill tree trail, it was excellent to see them again!

We had no living history events this week! Our August events will be held across the weekend of the 22nd to 24th of August in Stanley Hill Park. As part of the Jacobite festival 2025, Sir Arthur Erskine’s regiment will be setting up camp in Dunkeld, check out our what’s on page for more information about the weekend’s events.

We have had lots of sign ups for our archaeology and history society which launches in September, have a look at our clubs page to find out more and to register your interest in joining.

Bob has been back in for a visit and has been busy Catalouging finds from the Young Archaeologists’ excavation earlier this year! He is measuring and recording a lovely fragment of medieval green glaze pottery in this photograph!
