We are looking for people who attended the Royal School of Dunkeld from the 1980s to mid 2000s to help identify people in photographs from the school. Our Monday Memories group have named everyone they can from the 1940s through to 1970s but we need help from younger generations to name the next batch. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved.
We are continuing our search for names!
The Parish Church in Caputh has recently been sold, and the new owner is hoping to trace the descendants of the Murray Family whose plaques reside on the church walls. They would like these plaques to be reunited with the family. Research undertaken suggests that there are no living relatives after 2018, but we need your help to expand this search and confirm this information. Below are images of the plaques and the family tree which has been created. Are you or anyone you know anyone related to this Murray Family? We are continuing our research for our upcoming exhibition at the Birnam Book Festival, our volunteers have been hard at work collecting materials from our archive and researching the history of the Birnam Arts’ reading rooms, John Kinnaird, and Lady Manners. We look forward to putting this exhibition together for the festival which will be held in the Birnam Arts from the 23rd to the 25th of October 2026. On Wednesday Ruth attended the Association of Scottish Military Museum’s quarterly meeting at the Black Watch Museum in Perth. This was a great opportunity to find out what’s happening in Regimental Museums across Scotland. Find out more about Regimental and Corps museums across the UK here.
On Friday, some of our volunteers and Imogen will be attending an event at the Scottish Crannog Centre as part of their Oakbank day which is celebrating their Oakbank collection and its National Recognition of Significance. We are so excited to be supporting the Crannog Centre on this wonderful day and can’t wait to find out all about what they’ve been up to (and to see their amazing new Crannog too)!
Our Adult’s Archaeology and History club sessions will be starting again for the Autumn Winter season. All talks will be held on the last Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm in the room above the Perth Arms Pub unless otherwise stated. We are recruiting members for our Young Archaeologists’ Club, we meet every second Thursday from 3:30-4:30pm and are open to young people aged 8-16. We take part in activities based on a variety of history and archaeology based topics, to get involved contact manager@historicdunkeld.org.uk .
We have planned our next public consultation session, we will have our next in person event on the 14th of October at 7pm in The Duchess Anne, Dunkeld. to learn what progress we’ve made towards a Heritage Centre where Dunkeld and Birnam’s remarkable story can be told.
