We had a busy weekend starting with the Crannog Young Archaeologists’ Club paying us a visit up at our excavation site in Dunkeld. The group had a wonderful time looking at what we had uncovered and learning about the history of the site. The group took part in some excavation and sieving too!
The weekend activities continued with our Apothecary Workshop on Sunday. This workshop was led by the Historical Herbalists and was a great success. The group had a fabulous time creating historically accurate salves and tinctures and learnt about the history of apothecaries in Scotland. We will be hosting another historical workshop in July, Emma from Bog Born Crafts will be leading an experimental archaeology workshop based on Prehistoric pottery. Get your tickets now for the chance to create your own neolithic and bronze age beaker pottery and learn about the process from creation to decoration.
On Monday our Memories group joined us for an afternoon of fun, we had a look through several different albums and had some excellent conversations. New members are always welcome to join, the group meets on a Monday afternoon from 3-4:30pm.
The archaeology and history club excavations continued this week, ending with a flagstone being lifted and the finding of some charcoal on Friday! How very exciting. The site has been very productive and we hope to revisit it in subsequent years to continue investigating its history.
We've been working on a likely medieval chapel site all week with @historicdunkeld.bsky.social and today was flagstone lifting day. And charcoal has been found! 🙏
