We have been busy this week with lots of visitors to the archive. We started the week with Monday Memories coming in for a good ol’ chat and a look through some of our photograph albums. We have been busy planning our summer lunch for the group, this will be held in July.

Visitor numbers are steadily increasing as we head into the warmer months of the year, lots of people have been stopping by Dunkeld on their holidays. We have a variety of maps for the local area as well as unique souvenirs. Pop in to visit and see what we have for sale.

We have started to compile the research from our shops and houses project; we have been learning lots about the local area and have also managed to gather some interesting stories. We are still on the hunt for more information about the selected homes and businesses, so please get in touch if you have any information.

We had our Young Archaeologists’ Club in for a session on Thursday, Bob the archaeologist came along to lead a session on finds processing. The group were organising finds which had been collected on the Archaeology and History Club’s field walking session. This was an excellent chance to teach the kids about the kind of things you might find whilst out and about and how to identify different materials. They also sorted them into their relevant finds bags, and one of our new members even identified a potential worked stone fragment at her very first session. How exciting!

Bob also gave the group a short demonstration on flint knapping and how stone tools would have been created. Everyone was very interested in learning how you can identify the waves of percussion and that antlers were an essential tool in the knapping process. Watch the short video below to see part of the process.

Our next Adult’s Archaeology and History club session is a glass identification workshop with Jamie Kunka on the 28th of May at 7:30pm in the Perth Arms. Tickets are available on eventbrite, £20 for non members and members go free. Click here to book tickets.
