Elizabeth Kostova leading her writing workshop.
Our update begins with the archaeology and history club events from last Friday and Saturday. Dr Kate Britton presented a fabulous talk on Palaeoarchaeology and archaeological science which was fantastically attended. Saturday was geophisical and resistivity surveying at the St Jerome’s Chapel site. This was a great learning experience for our archaeology and History Club, a big thank you to AOC for leading this activity for us. After the excitement of the surveying, we did some field walking before the crops were planted. Freshly plowed soil may reveal some hidden treasures (always ask landowner permission first before undertaking any of these acitivities). Scroll through the gallery below to see the group in action.
We were straight back into action on Monday with our memories group, this week there was lots of curling group photographs within the albums which the club really enjoyed.
On Tuesday Imogen attended a frame conservation workshop with the Tayside Museum Forum, this was a super helpful introductory session on frame maintenance for exhibition purposes. Colleen Donaldson ACR was leading this workshop, thank you to the university of Dundee Museums for providing the frames to work on and the space used!
On Thursday Elizabeth Kostova the writer in residence from Asheville, our sister City, visited the archive to host a creative writing workshop which draws in inspiration from Archival Materials relevant to the village and its history. This was a fantastic session, there are two more creative writing workshops taking place in the archive, visit our what’s on page to find out more or book tickets.
Friday was the beginning of the Niel Gow Festival, we have a small exhibition in the Archive about Niel Gow and even have some artefacts and manuscripts on display, come along to see us on Saturday!
