An exciting start to this week, everyone please say hello to Kate our new temporary collection audit assistant! Kate studied history at University and had previously volunteered with us for over a year. She is very familiar with our collection and is interested in paper conservation and historic documents. We are so excited to work with her in this initial step of her heritage career. Thank you to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Museum Galleries Scotland for funding this role.
Did you miss the chance to attend our public consultation in January? Don’t worry, you haven’t missed out! You can now share your thoughts, opinions and ideas via our online form. We want your feedback so, please take part. It is 6 short questions and will only take between 2 and 5 minutes depending on how much info you would like to give us.
We had a lovely visit from Mel from the gardeners and growers club on Monday to our memories group to discuss gardens and gardening in the local area in days gone by. This went down a treat with the group and they had a lovely time discussing the gardens and plants they remember locally from when they were growing up.
Our volunteers have been hard at work on our National Heritage Lottery and Musuem Galleries Scotland funded Shops and Houses project, we are researching the history of the buildings and their residents. Do you know any information about the selected places? Are you interested in taking part in the research?
We are still looking for new or returning volunteers here in the archive, we have a variety of roles available from front of house to digitsing, pop in to see us or get in touch to get involved!
Some of our other volunteers this week have been digitsing items from our collection, this is a method of keeping the collection accessible but also prevents damage from handling the documents and objects. If you are interested in coming in to digitise part of our collection as a volunteer, let us know.
