Autumn is here! Things are starting to get chilly here in Dunkeld and the leaves are beginning to change colour. We even had a chat about extreme winter weather in previous years at Monday memories. Does anyone remember the big freeze of 1962/63?

Monday Memories Deep in thought.

Our tour guide Tom has been on holiday this week so Imogen has been giving our guided tours of the village. Guided tours are an excellent way to give visitors some quality insight into the history of the area.  If you have a group that you would like to arrange a tour for, please get in contact with the archive.

We have a new display in the Archive… The tall case which holds our King’s Award for Voluntary Services now also holds our items relating to our twinned community  ( or sister city) of Asheville North Carolina. We have our twinning agreement and a commemorative ceramic vase on display which was kindly donated to the Dunkeld and Birnam friends of Asheville by the University of North Carolina Asheville Campus. These items are being stored in the archive and museum for safe keeping for future generations from both communities.

We held our first Dunkeld Archaeology and History Club skills session on Thursday evening in the Perth Arms. Dr Gavin Lindsay was leading the session about Archaeological desk based assessment. This is a great tool for archaeological research as it allows you to build a strong foundation of research and evidence before undertaking any fieldwork activities.  Gavin delivered an excellent session with a wealth of information and resources for everyone to take away and start digging into the past.

We were included in a fabulous Travel Writer’s editorial in The Herald this week.  He certainly enjoyed his visit to the Archive.
