A lovely visit we recieved from the Friends of Perth and Kinross Archive!
This week we were in full swing organising our autumn and winter events!

The first of our autumn/winter “Conversations with…” series of talks begin next week with Dr Allan Kennedy who is an expert in in the social and political history of early modern Scotland. He has recently published book on crime in 17th century Scotland! Talks and skills training sessions hosted by the archive will now be part of our new archaeology and history club, members go free to these events so, please contact us if you are interested in joining. You can buy tickets to next week’s talk via this link.
Information for the next talks and workshops can be found via our what’s on page.
Midweek memories were working their way through more school photographs, this week they were looking for some more 1970s photographs for the upcoming school reunion. The next school reunion will be held on the 11th of October in the Birnam Arts Centre.
Tickets for this event cost £10. You can buy a ticket in person from the Archives starting now and tickets online from the Birnam Arts centre will be coming soon.

We have decided to make a small change to Midweek Memories, as the Monday afternoon slot we have used in the summer seems to work so well, we have decided to continue it throughout the winter! The group will be renamed “Monday Memories” and we will continue in the 3-4:30pm slot used throughout the summer. If you are interested in joining, please get in touch.

The friends of Perth and Kinross Archive visited us this week and went on a guided tour with Imogen. It was lovely to meet them all and tell them about the history of Dunkeld and show them some of the items from the collection.

Our Young Archaeologists’ club this week were learning about rock art in advance of their fieldtrip to Aberfeldy to visit rock art sites on Saturday. They made some really cool designs and had a think about how difficult it must have been to create the carvings in the past. They had a much easier clay carving activity, but the finished result looks fantastic!
LOCALfest25, is a brand-new festival dedicated to reimagining tourism through a local lens. From 15-17 October 2025, the three-day event will bring together tourism practitioners, hospitality providers, community groups, visitors, and locals to celebrate and explore the power of community-led tourism.
LOCALfest25 will offer a dynamic mix of workshops, walks, talks, concerts, and community activities, all designed to showcase how visitors can experience Scotland as “temporary locals” and leave a positive, lasting impact on the communities they visit.
We are one of the partner organisations for Localfest25! If you are interested in attending, tickets are available from this link.
