We had a brilliant Jacobite Festival weekend with the Sir Arthur Erskine Regiment from the 22nd to the 24th of August. Guided tours, a fantastic talk on the Taybank Terrace and a reenactment encampment in the park. We can’t wait for next year’s festival to do it all again!

We have now finished our summer events, but don’t worry our autumn winter session starts on the 12th of September with our first history talk of the season. We are shaking things up slightly with our talks this year by moving away from the classic formal talk, to more of a “conversation with an expert”. Our first talk is with Dr Allan Kennedy, who has just published a book “Serious Crime in Late 17th century Scotland”. He will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Our archaeology and history club launch event is on the 13th of September from 10-3pm at The Archive, which is a free event, so come along to find out how to join and what we’ll be up to.

We had Bob processing more finds from the Young Archaeologists’ Excavation this week. He was photographing finds for the excavation report, how exciting!

We’ve been networking a lot this week, the Perth and Kinross Cultural Forum meeting on Monday was an excellent opportunity to find out what’s happening in Perthshire with events and heritage. Thursday was the Association of Scottish Military Museums Curators meeting at The Royal Highland Fusillers museum in Glasgow which was a fantastic opportunity to find out about regimental museum activities in Scotland and catch up with the Curators.

A very dramatic Painting from Perth Art Gallery.
The Birnam Highland Games are taking place this Saturday, the 30th, so keep your eyes peeled for our display board full of the history and old photographs from the games. Have a read about the Birnam Highland Games via this link.
